Mindset Matters
Some mindsets powerfully take you in positive directions. Negative or destructive mindsets place you as a major part of the problem and totally undermine positive results.
Our mindset is something we choose. At times, many of us feel like we don’t have that choice, we are the victim of circumstances and justified in our poor attitude. When these thoughts emerge, reflect on the positive attitude of some people facing life’s most challenging conditions. Think of the cancer patient with a positive attitude and a mantra of “I have cancer, but cancer does not have me”. If these inspirational individuals can choose their mindset, then certainly you have the ability to choose yours.
If we express results as an equation, it might look like the following:
Results = f (Mindset) x (Conversations) x (Mechanisms)
Mindset includes:- Attitude- Intention- Accountability.- Responsibility- Energy- Enthusiasm- Commitment- Spirit- Edge- Creativity- Imagination- Thinking
Conversations include:
- Conversations for Relationship- Conversations for Possibility- Conversations for Performance
Mechanisms include:- Organizational structure- Technology; policies; competencies- Skill- Business process- Information management systems- Project management- Research and development- Organizational development- Behavior
Notice that the equation contains a multiplier. Having a conversation while holding onto a bad attitude or intention will seriously impact the results. You must not only choose the right words in a conversation, you also need to choose your mindset.
Consider the impact of shifting from a mindset of being the best in the world to being the best for the world.
